Speys, Dees and Tays

The rivers Spey, Dee and to a lesser degree the Tay are well known for having had distinctive and very different flies originally designed for them. As the salmon flies most of us recognize today came into being, these older, often more somber flies were displaced and often disappeared altogether from the anglers fly wallets. In this blog I present them again along with my own patterns designed along the lines laid out traditionally, to be fished anywhere a salmon or steelhead may run.
